What's new

Version history

Every release, newest first, in plain words. Cashington isn't out yet: the notes for the first public version will go at the top of this page on the day it's released.

Coming soon to the Microsoft Store for Windows, and as a signed download for Mac. Join the waitlist to hear once, when it's ready.

Coming in the first release: optional bank connections, through your own SimpleFIN or Plaid account and never through Cashington. Statement import keeps working without one. See how it works.

Preview builds

The private preview builds, in short. None of them was a public release; they're here so you can see how the app got to where it is.

  1. 0.2.3 3 October 2026

Drag to reorder on Cash Flow: every card (Income lines, Recurring bills, Spending lines) has a "Your order" sort with grips. A statement imported over rows a bank connection already brought in is matched, never doubled, and keeps your lines, notes and splits. Pickers show a line group as an indented heading under its kind. A full review before the public release: startup no longer stops when a backup cannot be written, a backup from a newer Cashington is refused with a clear message, Reset month keeps later balances right, and some sixty smaller fixes to words, dates and screens.

  2. 0.2.1 and 0.2.2 30 September 2026

A new menu: Home, then This month (Import, Cash Flow, Insights, Reports, Net Worth) and Set up (Money in, Money out, Accounts, Bank connections). Money in and Money out get their own pages, with groups of lines and the account each income line is deposited to. Add a rule, or a new line, right from a transaction. Accounts you only track the value of, such as an investment or a loan, and a Cash account. About has the guides, what's new and a sample household to explore.

  3. 0.2.0 30 September 2026

Bank connections, optional: connect your banks through your own SimpleFIN account, or your own Plaid keys, and new rows arrive on their own. Cashington never sees your bank login. Statement import keeps working beside it.

  4. 0.1.11 to 0.1.13 29 September 2026

Cashington on the Mac, for Apple Silicon: signed with an Apple Developer ID and checked by Apple, so it opens without a warning. On the Mac the title bar follows the app's light or dark theme. The app now says “this computer” everywhere, and dates such as a report's Generated date follow your computer's own calendar.

  5. 0.1.10 29 September 2026

Income lines paid monthly, twice a month, every two weeks or weekly, with the amount per payment, so months with three paydays expect all three. The Income and Bill Calendar on Home. Click any row, anywhere, to open it in the transaction drawer, and click any figure in Insights to see the rows behind it.

  6. 0.1.9 28 September 2026

A left rail you can collapse. Rows with no line stay editable while you file them. Income from older history can be combined with a current income line in Insights.

  7. 0.1.8 28 September 2026

Home side panels: click a spending line to see its rows for the range, and each account shows what came in and went out over it. Insights shows where the money comes from and group spending. Drag to reorder Net Worth.

  8. 0.1.7 28 September 2026

Insights and the Money map, from every paycheck to every bill and spending line. Home switches between This month, Year to date and a custom range, with a calendar of bills. Net Worth history starts where your data starts, and accounts can have short names.

  9. 0.1.6 28 September 2026

Calmer summary boxes with the top five, easier-to-read numbers, deleting a line (or moving its rows first if it's in use), and Net Worth groups, so a home and its loans sit together.

  10. 0.1.5 28 September 2026

The new look. Home as the month at a glance, Cash Flow as a T-account with money in on the left and money out on the right, Settings grouped into Money in and Money out, search by amount, and the Danger zone for erasing everything.

  11. 0.1.4 27 September 2026

Payment app accounts for Venmo, Cash App, PayPal and Apple Cash, with the money paid through them traced to the bank or card that funded it.

  12. 0.1.3 27 September 2026

Import from another computer: compare the two ledgers side by side, then merge them record by record or replace this one, with a verified safety backup first.

  13. 0.1.1 and 0.1.2 25 September 2026

Fixes from a careful review of the whole app. A balance you type into Net Worth counts from the day you entered it.

  14. 0.1.0 23 September 2026

The first private preview under the Cashington name: import CSV statements from your bank or card, file every row with rules, check the balances and close the month, then Cash Flow, Reports and Net Worth, with verified backups. No account, and nothing sent anywhere.
